A virtual tasting tour of cheese dairies and vineyards, interspersed with anecdotes and helpful information,  by former cheesemonger to the Queen, Arthur Cunynghame

The book is based around a personal selection of twelve of the finest cheeses, and the people who make them, matched with twelve memorable wines; and much more.

The Cheesemonger’s Tales are my personal reflections on visits to cheesemakers and winemakers, providing an insight into the people who are responsible for their individuality of styles and flavours.

They are personal stories about real people, set alongside my guides to: matching cheese & wine; buying, keeping and serving cheese; seasonal cheeseboards; how to make cheese; and essential information about each wine region.

A well-matched combination of cheese and wine adds hugely to the enjoyment of both.

Over the years I have conducted many tutored tastings of cheese and wine. In this book I have attempted to capture the essence of what proved enormously popular on so many evenings.

Arthur Cunynghame ... is the perfect expert to guide you through a virtual tasting tour of cheese dairies and vineyards.

Wineshare

It is surprisingly rare to come across a book written by a true expert, with a lifetime’s experience of their subject, rather than a professional author or media personality, but after 18 years as a wine merchant, and a further 17 as a cheesemonger, Arthur Cunynghame can safely be described as somewhat of an authority on both of them. This book is a fascinating collection of anecdotes and wisdom from his distinguished career (he was cheesemonger to The Queen and Prince of Wales), interspersed with practical advice on everything from how much cheese to allow per person at a dinner to what to serve with Champagne. An erudite, and utterly adsorbing tour around the creameries and vineyards of Europe - highly recommended.

Fresh Outlook

Well written and charming.
